With Christmas around the corner, many wonder just what to give their loved ones for Christmas this year. A lot has changed over the years since the economy crashed, and a lot of us are in the same boat. We want to give nice gifts, but we don't know what will be considered appropriate. I have a great idea for just that.

Why not create a package of various small items and put it together as one big thing? Who says you have to spend your life savings on Christmas? It's supposed to be the thought that counts anyway, right? Also, why not give something that you know the recipient will use, and regularly at that? Instead of giving them something that they may or may not use, pick something that you are a hundred percent certain about. If you are unsure about what to give someone, ask them to create some sort of list that contains a variety of items that they want or need and pull from it. This can become somewhat of a family tradition. Have everyone create lists, and pass these lists around. As things get purchased, cross them off the list so that there will be no duplicates.

If you don't want to go with the listing route, you can easily do an alternative. Certainly, you know what type of movie they like or what style of music they listen to. Grab a movie or a CD and play it up a bit with stuff you found at the dollar store or a thrift store. Gift cards are perfect if you are unaware of their collections. Netflix is also an alternative when you want the movie-watching to be continuous.

Gift cards are a great way to allow the recipient to be able to pick out his or her own merchandise. This is a good gift because it allows them to be able to have a little joy of shopping and picking out something that would be beneficial to them, and you would have the satisfaction of knowing that they would get something that they would actually use.

Don't have time for shopping? No problem. You can easily search for gifts online. You can find an assortment of items online that are unique; anything from sports, bath and spa, clothing, gift baskets and furniture. Occasionally, you may find something online that you can't find in stores. I found a neat website a few months ago called Itsy. It's similar to eBay, except the items you find are crafty and submitted by people who homemade them. Some sites even offer custom gift baskets, such as Castle Baths. A simple email or phone call stating what you are looking for and a gift basket is almost automatically personalized to your needs. The only downside to ordering Christmas gifts online is that there is a delay in receiving the product due to shipping times.

Don't let Christmas be a hassle this year. Be on the lookout for gifts that matter and will be beneficial to the recipient.
